Gen Con 08- Picture time!

So, another Gen Con come and gone (sniff). Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't share my pictures.
So... here-a we go!

Cosplaying Misa Amane from Death Note. I actually went to some work on this cosplay and based it on ACTUAL ART of her rather than throwing on Goth clothes and a wig and being all "oh look I'm Misa Misa!" and as a result, got many a compliment. And yes, that is the same wig I use for Domino cosplay.
A girl who can kill you by writing your name down and two guys in badass red trenchcoats packing serious heat (Vash from Trigun and Dante from Devil May Cry). We're all doomed.
Random crap I bought the first day of the con. Note the Empoleon and Piplup and Darkrai stuff. This isn't the last you'll see of them.
A bunch of Phoenix Wright cosplayers. And damn are they good.
Apparently by Thursday evening I couldn't wait to cosplay Domino the next day because I ended up randomly sketching her while talking with some people in the anime room.
In her quest to capture Darkrai, Domino attempts to gain the aid of Solid Snake, Zelda, and... some video game character whose name currently escapes me... in what has to be the weirdest crossover EVAR.

After much searching, Domino obtains the Darkrai. And how does she celebrate this victory for Team Rocket.....?
Why, by playing Guitar Hero, of course! It is a little known fact that 009 can SHRED that thing. (The song I picked was Paint it Black, incidentally. Yes, that was completely intentional. It was either that or Black Magic Woman, but that would have been better for when I cosplayed Misa the day before.)

Faye Valentine: Hey, you wouldn't be that bounty we've been looking for, would you? I mean, you have a black tulip, and the Big Shot show DID mention a bounty on someone who goes by the nickname of The Black Tulip...
Domino: Bounty? What bounty? I'm just a humble botanist who likes perfecting rare breeds of tulip...
Faye: Oh, okay.
Day 3, the long awaited Team Rocket cosplay. That's my friend Elizabeth cosplaying Jessie and my friend Andrew in the Naruto (forgot which character, but he's the puppet guy) cosplay.
WHY SO SERIOUS?
Team Rocket. And Stormtroopers. In the same picture. The Win is strong in this one.
Crossplayers/group cosplayers unite! The girls behind us in this pic had done an Ouran group crossplay the day before, and the day this was taken were doing Gravitation and Death Note cosplays. Shortly after we'd gathered to talk crossplay (well, me, the Gravitation crossplayer, and L), a cameraman from the local ABC affiliate came to interview me. And it showed up on the evening news. But the ego boost didn't end there...
In the future, kids will play card games... ON MOTORCYCLES!
Jessie and James plot how to steal the Duel Runner and give it to Giovanni as a present (hey, who DOESN'T want a sweet bike like that?) as Meowth innocently plays lookout...
...but of course, two similarly dressed freaks checking out a motorcycle that epic (or standing in front of the Yu Gi Oh booth while dressed as two of the most popular cartoon characters of the late nineties) can't go unnoticed for long, and before they knew it, they were found by the editorial staff of Beckett Pokemon Collector, who requested their photo, presumably for their magazine. As proof of this meeting, James requested a photo with them. (On a more serious note, we really DID have people stopping us all day for pics, and on the subject of Beckett, when I brought up the magazine's reputation for inaccuracy and poor fact checking with Pokemon internet fandom, the editor- on the left- danced around the whole subject and made up a bunch of excuses. It was amusing.)
Inuyasha and Kagome make the mistake of asking Team Rocket for directions back to Feudal Japan."We'll get you back there in a jiffy!" Eheheheheheh....
For the final day of the con I wore Gothic Lolita. Not much happened otherwise, except...
This is Empoleon.
He is not an amused penguin.
Recreating one of the cutest scenes from the opening of Movie 10 in plushie. Elizabeth bought the ice cream Piplup I bought on Thursday that day.

Date: 2008-08-19 01:29 am (UTC)Great pics. ^^
That looks like a Kankurou! Yep, saw the hood, definitely a Kankurou. Hard to recognize due to lack of kabuki face paint. xD;
Now, if I had read your puppet guy comment first, I would have figured it out sooner. ^^;
That Heath Ledger-style Joker gives me nightmares. ;_;
That Jessie is SO cute in the Stormtroopers pic.
That L is pretty good, only unfortunately pretty-faced. That can't be helped, but it'd be better if he or she looked more like an insomniac bum. xDD;
Ooh, pretty bike. -distracted by cute Pony bag-
BECKETT. Aw, man, cool! Aha, that sounds entertaining.
That Kagome is sugary sweet. That Inuyasha's actually pretty good!
The Empoleon closeup is scaryyyy.
Aha, that movie opening scene is also recreating another scene in the actual DP anime where Pochama puffs its chest up trying to out-do its evolutionary form.
Should tell you I'm a DP nut for relating this to that and not the recreation that preceeded your recreation.
(Though, yes, it is ADORABLE in movie animation too. ♥)
An icecream-holding Pochama! Such cuteness.

Date: 2008-08-19 03:42 am (UTC)And I love the Empoleon's expression. It's like a cat who wants you to feed it. And wants feeding NOW.
It's so irresistible.

Date: 2008-08-21 06:41 am (UTC)And it is the same Darkrai that you showed to us when you were dressed as Domino. BTW, you make a nice Domino, also.
