Maybe it's just one of those things my Aspie brain can't wrap itself around, but why do the members of [livejournal.com profile] egl  bemoan that as much as they like the link I posted to the book purse tutorial, they would feel sad cutting up a book?

A book is not sentient. It lacks feelings. And I get not being able to cut up a book that has sentimental feeling to you, but something you grabbed off the shelf at Half-Price or Goodwill just for the project? Something you have no attachment to, being "hard" to cut up?

I really don't understand if the members are trying to be twee and OH BOOKS ARE TOO SPECIAL FOR ME because they think it makes them look cute or if there is honestly some LJ hivemind that holds all written material as sacrosanct and I'm doing it wrong.
