...So I'm posting in the Bulbagarden Domino fan club and innocently mention I don't like smut.


Aurora posts back as though I'm a freak of nature.


And it brought to the front of my mind a question that's been nagging at me for some time. No one, it seems, reads my R100 fics as much as they used to anymore. And I'm apparently the only Team Rocket fan that doesn't believe in shipping Giovanni with everything that moves.

Am I too nice a girl to be a Team Rocket fan? Are people getting sick of all my sweet coming of age stories about Nekou? Would people actually read my fic if instead of having Sebastian angst about her eventual fate, he was making out with her or something?


Seriously, every time I mention how Commandshipping makes me uncomfortable, I get a ton of people (I won't name any) defending it and acting like I'm a terrible poser of a Domino fan for even implying their relationship is nothing deeper than that of a father figure, or something. And I think it's ridiculous, because most of what I'm apparently supposed to believe isn't even canon. It's just in fanfiction people write. If I was going around saying, "Domino and Ash are BFFs, OMG!", I could see where people might take issue to that. But I don't.


Really, I don't know why I'm even posting this. It just seems like there's something I'm missing here. Can't I like Pokemon the way I like it, without feeling out of place for what I think about the characters?

I don't really see why I should read your fics about original characters when I hate OC's in almost any way, shape, or form. You don't read most of my fics because they contain smut or commandshipping. How is that any different? I try to read your fics and post something nice even though I detest OC's simply out of respect, which is more than I can say for you. =/

It has nothing to do with a lack of smut. I won't read smutty stories with OC's in them. Some of my stories have commandshipping but no smut, and I'm sure you still don't read those. I don't reply to your stories by saying, "Well, I won't read any of your other stories because I hate original characters," like you're somehow wrong for creating original characters. Did you ever think people get defensive because you come across as "you're wrong for liking that!", even if that's not how you mean it?

it's not a personal attack. I just think it's unreasonable to tell someone you won't read the majority of their work because it contains something you don't like, then expect others to do exactly what you told them to their face you won't. You've got to give a little to get... Blackjack always reads/replies to my fics, and so I always try to make an effort to read her (very enjoyable) fics and leave a comment, even if it's about Sebastian or the silvers or someone else I don't even know.

If you're really that upset over people not replying to your fics, you might try replying to other peoples. Just a thought.

I read and reply to *everyone*'s fics. At least on R100. It's not just you.

Sometimes you can leave reviews until you're blue in the face and not get any in return. Sure it's frustrating, but there's really no guarantee.

I know you reply to everyone's fics, but because you reply to mine I try extra hard to make sure I read yours. =) It won't work all the time, but you can't really complain no one comments on your work if you've already told them you won't comment on some of yours.

my point was, people are more likely to notice you and start replying to your fics if you reply to theirs. No, there's no guarantee, but I find it's true with most things online. I have an online journal for my eating disorder and it says at the top of the forum, "DO NOT COMPLAIN THAT NO ONE WRITES IN YOUR JOURNAL. If you're discouraged because no one comments on your entries, start posting in other peoples'." Because 99% of the time (unless the person is a bit dense), when you consistently reply to someone's entries and make an effort to "get to know them", they'll usually return the favor.

That's the best advice I can give, sorry.

fwiw, I do think it's cool you don't ship Gio with everyone else. That's thinking outside the box and it's interesting to see it. But most of us assume that since he's evil in so many other aspects he's probably evil in that one too. *shrug*

It's a personal choice, and I think if you get defensive reactions from people it might be because you sometimes come across as "attacking" others who DO like smut or excessive pairings. If I (even accidentally) make other people feel like they're bad people for eating meat, then they'll probably react defensively and be rude to me for not eating it. That might be what's happening.

And I also don't think my reply was excessive. Apparently we're not communicating well over text, and I apologize if you felt like I was attacking you for not liking smut.
